C.A.R.E. Africa (Children at Risk Empowered) was started in 2014 by a Nigerian national, Emmanuel Salako, and a Missionary from Louisville Kentucky, Patrice Miles. When two 14 year olds came to the hospital in Egbe, Nigeria, to work with the temporary laborers revitalizing the hospital, a construction Manager, Lenny Miles, saw how small they were and asked their ages. Once he found out how old they were, he told them they were too young and needed to be in school. They told him the reason they wanted to work was so they could pay for school fees.
Schools in Egbe, Nigeria, are very important. Jobs are scarce in this small bush town, and you must be able to read and write in order to work. C.A.R.E Africa was created to help empower kids through an education and discipleship. We later found a need for widows, abandoned mothers and the unemployed.

Kadijat is 15 years old and a Muslim. She is a single orphan, meaning her mother is still alive. Her Father died recently, and her mother and 2 other siblings were left in the care of the Father’s family. The family could not support them, so they sent them to the next town of Egbe to look for work. When Kadijat’s mother heard about our program, she came and begged us to enroll Kadijat. She of course was a perfect candidate. She is in a Christian school now, takes Christian religion classes and has her very own Bible. On Saturdays, when the missionaries meet with all the kids, Kadijat is told about Jesus and how much He loves her. We pray that one day she will ask Jesus to be a part of her life.
